Midnight Cry Messenger

Editor’s Letter

Dear Saints,

Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus! Once again our apologies for being a little behind schedule. Once we get into “convention season” it is easy to feel the need to wait until after it’s over.

We had a wonderful convention this year here in Southern Pines, NC. As always there were folks from several states gathered as well as quite a number who joined us via Zoom.

From the very first service it was evident that we weren’t the only ones there; the Lord was very much present, overshading and leading. All praise to Him! We always need whatever He knows that we need, and all of God’s people certainly have needs. That’s just how it works! And that work will continue till He comes.

The lead article has an unusual title, to be sure, but the subject is a timely and important one. How often in history has God genuinely visited a people, often raising up an anointed ministry, only to see following generations descend into mere tradition and form.

Just because God “did something” in the past doesn’t mean we can just keep doing the same things we did then and expect Him to show up! Just like the Israelites were taught that they needed fresh manna every day, so do we!

In view of the main article I felt led to repeat the article, “God’s Plan for the Church.” We printed it a little over two years ago and it is also chapter 12 in the book, “Sudden Death Overtime.” Even as we need present tense divine leadership, we also need a sense of where God is taking us. It is easy to become distracted and anxious as we observe all that is happening in our world as we draw ever nearer to the end. I’m glad that God has a plan and that nothing the devil can do can stop it!

Also, I felt led to repeat the article about, “My Perspective on Brother Thomas.” A lot in that article specifically discusses truths about the dangers of turning a genuine divine movement into a mere “monument.” God greatly used Bro. Thomas during his time of earthly ministry but the last thing he wanted was for us to “build four walls” around it all and feel like, “We’ve got it! We’ve got it.”

The last article, “The Path to Unity,” gives a “condensed version” of the last convention service message. We know that Jesus prayed that believers might all be brought to unity as He and the Father were one. Do you suppose that His prayer will be answered?

Of course, the devil and his hosts hate Christ, know their fate, and seek to oppose by every means the fulfillment of that prayer. They are very familiar with human nature and use it to their advantage at every opportunity. Wouldn’t it be a good thing if we understood that better and knew how to “fight the good fight of the faith”? There is a way, if we are willing!

Till next time may God’s rich blessings be yours.

Your brother in Christ,
Phil Enlow
