Editor's Letter

Dear Saints,

Greetings to all in the wonderful name of Jesus! As I write this we are about one and a half weeks from our June Convention which will be held in Lexington, South Carolina (the greater Columbia area). We are expecting many to be there, including some brothers from overseas. Most importantly we are expecting the Lord to be there. Without Him it is just religion. We need Him as never before. I’m so thankful for His promises never to leave us nor forsake us.

The lead article this issue is the continuation of the missing subject material in the series on, “What Does Deception Look Like?” Sharp-eyed readers surely noticed that the word “Like” was missing from the headline in the last issue! There’s nothing like catching small typographical errors and missing the big ones!

If Christ is not actively present in something called “church,” then some other spirit IS. There are many symptoms of these other spirits and their influence and that is what this article as about. Specifically, we delve into the area of the emphasis upon “signs and wonders,” supposed evidences people mistakenly accept as proof that Christ is there.

The other front page article is a short one first published 44 years ago. I have recalled it many times over the years but recently it was rediscovered among our old papers. I believe it is time to renew the warning of where this country is headed. Many others have sounded similar warnings.

It may seem odd to re-publish a vision that is 44 years old and that almost seemed to warn of an imminent judgment. After all, 44 years have passed. But God’s time is not ours. Read the many dire warnings of the Old Testament prophets to ancient Israel and Judah and then consider the time element involved. Just because time passed between prophecy and fulfillment didn’t make the fulfillment any less sure.

I don’t know whether the vision was meant to depict America at Christ’s coming or some judgment prior to that meant particularly for America but I have a strong sense of warning in my spirit concerning the direction we are headed.

There is an oft-quoted statement I have heard over the years: “If God doesn’t judge America He is going to have to resurrect Sodom and Gomorrah and apologize.” Somehow I seem to remember hearing Dave Wilkerson say that way back in the 60s although the essential quote is attributed to Billy Graham. I don’t who said it or when or who was quoting whom but it surely is true. God is being incredibly patient in meting out the judgment that surely hangs over not only this nation but our world.

The steady trend in America is to accept and to even glorify all manner of morally corrupt practices and to suppress and minimize the influence of Christ and Christianity. At the same time a deep apostasy is gathering speed in what is purported to be Christian churches. If you want just one example: go to youtube.com and do a search on “Harlem Shake in churches” and see what you turn up. It’s bad enough to see demon-inspired pagan dancing in so-called churches but to see it gloried in as something wonderful....?!

The kind of darkness that is spreading abroad in our land is the result of rejecting divine light. It is a judgment from God. As Jesus said in Matt 6:23, “If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

I’m glad that there is light for those with a heart for it!

Your brother in Christ,
Phil Enlow
