Foreword

“Take heed that no man deceive you.” “For many shall come ... and shall deceive many.” “Many false prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many.” “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders ...” (Matthew 24:4, 5, 11, 24). “Let no man deceive you by any means .... “ “... after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” (II Thessalonians 2:3, 9).

A number of years ago God began to impress in a new way these scriptures warning of great deception at the end of the age upon the mind and heart of Brother C. Parker Thomas. God’s dealings with Brother Thomas resulted in many new insights into the scriptures relating to the end time, a deeper sense of urgency in the ministry of warning and teaching God’s elect, and ultimately in a series of articles published in the Midnight Cry Messenger. These articles, together with three articles by other brethren that the author felt would serve to confirm the message of the whole are here gathered into book form.

This second edition, published in early 1996, contains a new last chapter entitled “1995 Update,” which, as its title suggests, discusses world conditions in 1995 in the light of the truths contained in the rest of the book.

This book is sent forth with one objective: to edify and strengthen believers that they might be instructed and prepared for the great events of the end time. In view of Jesus’ emphatic and repeated warnings against deception, it is the author’s fervent prayer and desire to warn all who can receive such warning that the deception of which Jesus spoke is here all around us now.

You will profit from this book if you: are an honest seeker of truth; are a good “Berean” (Acts 17:11); will prayerfully seek the Lord concerning these teachings. On the other hand, this book will not benefit you at all if you: are mentally and spiritually enslaved by religious tradition; consider anything, no matter what, more important than possessing truth, no matter what the cost. I sincerely hope that you fall into the first class and that you will weigh honestly before the Lord what is taught in this volume, searching the scriptures whether these things are so.

There will, no doubt, be many surprises in store for you as you read. You will perhaps be amazed as you realize some of the lying signs which Satan has erected for the purpose of pointing unsuspecting men and women away from the path of truth and light and divine blessing.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, Christ is coming soon! The “blessed hope” of believers is soon to make a dramatic and sudden intrusion into human history. Even as we heed the other exhortations of scripture to “watch,” “be ready,” “purify” ourselves, “be sober,” “endure to the end,” etc., let us also heed Jesus’ warnings against deception. Wise virgins, arise; trim your lamps: Behold, the bridegroom cometh!
