Transcript of message from TV Broadcast 1166 -- taken from Closed Captioning Text

— Brother Phil Enlow: “He that endureth to the end,” Jesus said, “shall be saved.” (KJV). But it’s not my strength that’s gonna do that. It’s His. But, I’ll tell you what He’s put within me, if I will yield to it and believe in it, it will keep me. It will keep you. But here was the mercy and the love of God reaching out to men, and still they said, no, and they went right on doing what they did.

And Jesus said they were “…marrying and giving in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark.” (NIV). The flood came, and they didn’t all have a nice swim party. What happened?

( congregational response ).

How many of them?

( congregational response ).

All of them died. All in the same event. Jesus said it’s gonna be like that when I come. I’m gonna rescue…there’s a rescue for some and there’s a total destruction for others.

You see exactly the same thing when Jesus came into the world, because God had dealt with the Jewish nation for centuries. There had been judgments all along. God had reached out time and time and time again.

The patience of God is just beyond anything we could possibly conjure up. How God could put up with the wickedness of that nation and not just immediately come right down on them! My God, how quick we are! God give us a spirit of mercy like He has.

Oh, how His heart reached out time and time again through the prophets. He said why do you want to die? Repent! I’ll bless you, I love you, I’ll wrap my arms…I’ll forgive your sins! I’ll deal with it! It’s okay…not okay in the sense…you understand what I’m saying. I can handle it. I can deal with this. If you’ll only give Me your heart and repent, and they wouldn’t, they just…and instead of doing that, they killed the prophets, persecuted them, did everything in the world to say, no!

Except for that small little handful that God preserved through all of that. And He gave them prophets who warned about the day of the Lord, but they also promised a Savior who was gonna come.

And of course, He came in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ to that nation. He said He was, “…sent…unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (KJV). And He came with a message of love and of mercy and of hope.

And He reached out and everywhere He went there was a division among the people. There were those who opened their hearts and He gave them, “…power to become the sons of God…” because they received Him as God’s messenger. There were others who went like this. They hated the Light. They wouldn’t come to it. Why? Why does John say they wouldn’t come to the light?

( congregational response ).

They didn’t want their deeds reproved! They didn’t want to change the way they lived. They were addicted to their fleshly appetites, to their pride, to all the different aspects of sin.

Oh God, if we could see what sin is, the awful power that it wields! You wonder why God is against it. It’s not a bunch of rules! It’s a way of living and thinking that all centers in self! It’s destructive! It leads to death! God is reaching out in mercy to try to stop people from running pell-mell over the cliff into destruction. That’s His heart.

You see it in what Jesus did. You see it when He went to the cross. He said, Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they’re doing. What amazing grace! You talk about amazing grace. That’s about as amazing as it gets. It’s wonderful that He reaches out to us who hear His Word. But to actually have a heart that still reached out with forgiveness for those who were doing the very thing—who were actually carrying this thing out. He said, Father, forgive them. God, don’t hold this against them. They don’t know what they’re doing. Doesn’t that reveal his heart? I’ll tell you, it makes me want to serve Him and trust Him.

( congregational amens ).

Praise God! That’s His heart toward us. Oh, and then He went to the cross, but you know He didn’t stay there. He came out with glorious victory, and that’s where the disciples were turned from cowards into mighty preachers after the Spirit came upon them. Peter’s message even then warned about the Day of the Lord.

Well, the Day of the Lord for them was about 40 years away. There was a terrible judgment that hung over that nation. Jesus had looked at the religious leaders and said, you’re just like your fathers. And, He said, not only that, the guilt…I’m gonna paraphrase, but the guilt of all the sins that your fathers committed in persecuting and murdering the prophets, that guilt is fallen on you! I’m not just gonna punish you for your sins, I’m gonna punish you for everything going all the way back. Why? Because they embraced it!

I’ll tell you, if you embrace this world, you’re embracing its rebellion, its wickedness. You’re embracing every evil thing about it. You can’t just cherry pick and say, well, I’m gonna take the good stuff. There isn’t any good stuff. Not the spirit of this world. God help us.

Anyway, He preached and He warned about judgment to come, and it wasn’t just way on down. This was staring them in the face. This was not that far off. Even then, God waited 40 years, didn’t He? Because He was reaching out to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. One by one He began—thousands in some cases, on the day of Pentecost He called them in.

But what was Peter’s message? After he…it says they were baptized and he told them what to do. He said, save yourselves from this crooked, corrupt, I think is the word in this translation, corrupt generation. Well, I would say that’s the message today, for anybody that still hasn’t really cast their lot 100 percent with Jesus Christ. You don’t realize what you’re playing with. You don’t realize the forces that are in charge of this world. You have no idea. I just pray that God will open eyes.

( congregational amens ).

Folks, we can pray and God can open eyes, because that’s what it takes. If you don’t see it, you don’t see it. But I’ll tell you, it’s the truth. Jesus warned of this. Peter, under the power of God’s Spirit, warned.

And the message is the same today. “Save yourselves from the corrupt generation.” (NIV). It is a corrupt generation. It is headed for the fire. That’s exactly what happened. Do you know what God did for His people? They lived in terrible circumstances, the little church in Jerusalem. You know, they stoned Stephen and then they killed James, the apostle, one of the disciples.

Later on James, the brother of Jesus, became the leader of the church there in Jerusalem. People all over the world, where Paul went, were sending money to help the poor saints in Jerusalem because they were so beleaguered by the entrenched power that just hated them, that wanted to kill them! One day they stood James up on a high place in the temple and wanted him to recant his faith in Jesus Christ publicly.

And he took the opportunity to do the exact opposite. That made them really happy! So they threw him down and stoned him…anyway they killed him. I don’t remember the exact method they used, but it wasn’t nice.

But I’ll tell you, God remembered His people and before the Romans surrounded that city of Jerusalem and destroyed it utterly, He got his people out. And so you see the same thing. God taking a time period and warning, waiting, judgment is held back because God is wanting everyone who could possibly hear and receive the message to receive Him.

Well, we are in that kind of a period. I can’t answer all your questions. All I know is God is in charge. He has the date marked in His calendar just as He did on those other occasions. It is coming.

And, listen to the words of Peter in chapter 3. “Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.” Oh we need that. What is wholesome thinking? Well, it’s thinking that’s governed by the Word of God. If it’s something that comes from some other source, how can we regard it as truth?

Think about that. How foolish it is to take the wisdom of people in this world and say, I think it’s this way. Well, I think it’s this way. Take your choice. Either way is gonna be a problem. Either way. There is a way, Solomon said, that leads…I mean sorry, that seems right to a man, but the end thereof leads to death, leads to destruction.

“I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets….” So here, he’s referring back to the very thing we said. He says I want you to pay attention the fact that prophets going back to the beginning have warned that there’s a Judgment Day coming. “I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.” So you’ve got a witness, a current witness that had been going on for decades by those that the Lord had chosen and anointed.

“First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come….” You know, you look at some of the things people say and do, and you say, how can they be so blind? How is it possible? Well, it’s possible because there is a spirit that has blinded their minds. I mean it has absolutely so cloaked them in a way of looking at the world that they cannot see. You cannot explain the sunset to a blind man. You can try in words, but he doesn’t really get it.

“…Scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.” Do you suppose there might be a connection there? Do you think that there just might be a connection between the scoffing at the idea of the Lord and the judgment and all of that, and the fact that they’re following their own evil desires? I’ll tell you, we look at something like alcohol and drugs as being very addictive! Sin in any form is addictive!

( congregational amens ).

It might be religious pride! That’s probably the worst one! Churches where people don’t know the Lord, but they’re filled with pride in their own religiosity! But, you name any kind of sin, it is an addictive power that will take control of a life! And it will seem so…it will lie to you and say, this is desirable! This is the way! This is the answer to your problems! And all you’re doing is digging a deeper hole, getting in deeper. The chains are getting stronger.

And that’s where the scoffing comes from. You can’t just sit there and say, well, I know judgment is coming, but I’m gonna do this anyway. You’ve got to come to a point where you’ve got to make a choice. “They will say, Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?”

So you see the sense of delay in the Lord’s judgment is mercy toward us. It’s actually mercy toward the world! But the person who has a heart of unbelief will see this as an excuse to say where is all…I don’t believe it. You’ve been talking about that for decades and nothing’s changed. Nothing’s happened. Where is His coming? I’m tired of hearing about it.

There’s a wisdom of God in waiting. It will bring out faith. It will bring out unbelief. You think about the one that Jesus warned, the servant. He gave him instructions, and he said, well, my Lord’s delaying his coming. I’m gonna go and eat and drink with the drunken. I’m go live my life. And the Lord comes when he’s not ready, and he’s gonna wind up cast out with the hypocrites. He was never the Lord’s to begin with. God is gonna use the delay to make manifest.

But here there is a, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our father died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation. But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed.” All God had to do didn’t need an engineer, didn’t need anything but just to speak. My God. I don’t want to mess with Him.

( laughing ).

I don’t want to get on the wrong side of that God. But the wonderful thing is he’s not a tyrant! He’s a God of love and mercy who longs to wrap me in his arms and bless me, and you. But, oh what power.

What amazing…you know every once in a while they’ll throw on the websites…they’ll throw some great new photograph of deep space that NASA has come up with and it’s just awe inspiring. You see these galaxies and, well, all the different formations of stars, full of colors and just amazing stuff. And it’s just the tiniest little bit of what God did when he just said let there be. Whew! But here’s people who say, I can live my life. I don’t need to worry about God. Whew! What a state to come into.

“But, they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.” God has given this generation an example of what happens. When civilization, when things just keep on going, when people continue in darkness, we know what happens. There comes a time when judgment has to fall. And that absolutely happened.

Boy, they’re gonna do everything they can to undermine, to make it sound cute. They’re gonna give little toy bathtub size replicas of the ark to make it sound ridiculous. They’ll just make it ridiculous by any means they can, to dismiss it. But it was real. It happened. Can you imagine the reaction of the people when the rain began to fall and the floods began to come, and they saw the boat sailing away? And they realized it’s too late. It’s too late.

“By the same word….” So now there is a comparison with something that happened in the past and something that’s going to happen in the future. “By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.”

So God has got a day marked on His calendar. You and I don’t know what it is. Sometimes it seems like life just goes on. Folks, our own society is not going to go on like it is. You might as well wake up to that fact. But even if it did, the world is going on in a certain course and it’s going to come to an end!

You need to live your life, whether you’re the Lord’s or whether you’re not, you better live your life with this knowledge. If you’re gonna choose to go your way, God help you. God, wake you up. God, help you to realize this is not just religious dogma, this is the Word of the living God to warn this generation the same way he warned the one before the flood!

( congregational amens ).

Judgment is coming! There is a Day of the Lord that’s coming and we don’t know when it’s coming! It will catch the world completely off guard!

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient…” Get that! “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

You’ve seen it in historical examples of God’s mercy and His patience, but there does come a day. When someone pushes away the grace of God that would wrestle with their hearts, and they push it away for the last time, and God says, all right. What do you think is gonna happen then? Do you think there’s any way someone in that state can ever come to the Lord? God knows that and God knows who that applies to. But I’ll tell you, that’s a sober and a very real warning. There comes a time when darkness so possesses a human mind that they are as good as judged right then.

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.” Or destroyed, it depends on which translation. “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

“But…” Oh I’m thankful for that ‘but.’ “But in keeping with his promise…” The promise of a God who cannot lie, by the way. “…In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” I’ll tell you, if you know the Lord, you can look past all this!

( congregational amens ).

It doesn’t have to be a source of distress that such a day is coming! It’s a day of hope! It’s a day of deliverance! That’s not the end! It’s the end for this world!

You know, John wrote, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world…for all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (KJV)

And what happens? “…The world passeth away, and the lust thereof.” Oh my God, how foolish it is to live for temporal stuff that’s not gonna last. It’s gonna just chain you to a place that’s gonna burn up. “We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” (NIV). Oh, praise God!

“So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.” Praise God! Folks, I’m thankful this morning that we have truth in this hour.

( congregational amens ).

There are people running around trying to figure it all out, trying to plan for the future of this planet, trying to save the planet. Well, God’s got it already reserved for something and it’s not for saving and preserving. It’s for burning up!

( congregational amens ).

And they are busy trying to bring about a world society to solve all the problems! Get a bunch of elites up there that are gonna tell us all what to do, and bring peace on earth! It ain’t gonna happen. It’s not going to succeed, let’s put it that way, not beyond a short time. But in the midst of that, God is calling a people. I want to be one of those people.

( congregational amens ).

I want to be alive and awake and I want to be able to be used of Him because, there is a message that is going out. I believe, at this moment, that God is still calling people.

( congregational amens ).

But there’s gonna come a day when the door will be shut! There’s gonna come a day when men will wake up and plan their day and suppose that everything will continue as it always has, and all of a sudden the trumpet is gonna sound. And they’re gonna see and suddenly they’re gonna know, ‘oh my God, it was all true!’ I’ll tell you, if Jesus is a liar or he’s crazy, then disregard all this. Just forget about it, because Jesus said these very same things. I believe He spoke the truth.

( congregational amens ).

But I believe He spoke it not in a threat, but in a spirit of love and mercy to call people to wake up, and to live in the light of the times that we live in. Your life is not just some little bubble that you live in and the rest of the world just goes on. We are living as a part of a planet that is headed for the fire.

But God has a purpose in everything. For the believer, trust Him. Understand that He knows what He’s doing. He’s getting you ready for glory. If you don’t know the Lord, oh, then you cry out to Him to open your heart and open your eyes and realize the folly of living your life in this world and ignoring Him! Give your heart to Him! Cry out to Him and He’ll hear you!

( congregational amens ).

If you’re willing to turn, but it can’t be halfway, it’s got to be all or nothing! That’s the world we live in, folks. That’s the reality of it. Don’t listen to the world that would dull you to all of this. God’s Word is true and it still needs to ring forth. Praise God!
